AN
EFFECTIVE ORGANIZATION MEETING A CRITICAL NEED
There is a growing public awareness that a higher level of
economic literacy is essential to the future economic well-being of our
country. The mission of the Colorado Council on Economic Education (CCEE) is
to meet this need by promoting and improving economic literacy in Colorado’s
schools. The most effective way to provide economic education to the largest
number of students is to enhance the knowledge of their teachers.
A typical teacher will reach up to 150 students per year. CCEE
accomplishes its mission by offering a wide variety of economics classes for
teachers. Graduate continuing education credit is available for nearly all
CCEE classes through C.U. at Colorado Springs.
CCEE also provides teachers with numerous economic education curriculum
resources for their classroom.
Our goal is a society of young people and adults . . .
-
who understand that economics is about making people better-off;
-
who recognize that a country’s standard of living depends on its
ability to produce goods and services;
-
who know that people respond to incentives;
-
who realize that all decisions have an opportunity cost; and
-
who appreciate free enterprise and value our economic freedom.
A PRACTICAL APPROACH
TO TEACHING ECONOMIC REASONING
CCEE’s approach works because the individual teacher is key to what happens
in the classroom. Since most classroom teachers have taken few, if any,
college courses in economics, finance or business, most hesitate to
introduce even simple economic concepts. In-depth CCEE training and ongoing
support services give educators everything they need to make this important
subject interesting and relevant.
Part of
a national effort
CCEE is part of a coordinated nationwide effort to help America’s young
people understand the basic principles that govern a market economy. CCEE is
an independent Colorado not-for-profit corporation with IRS 501(c)(3)
status. CCEE receives all of its funding from the private sector, including
foundations, businesses and individuals who believe in the importance of
economic education. As an independent affiliate of the National Council on
Economic Education, CCEE belongs to a nationwide network of state councils
and more than 200 university-based centers for economic education. |
